Riley Tonsils Update
I am writing this mostly for my benefit, so I can remember how horrible it is to get one's tonsils out. The last week has not been fun for Riley or anyone trying to feed him. He has been out of school for a week now moping around the house like a ghost or more aptly a skeleton. Riley has been unable to eat because his throat hurts so much. His ears hurt terribly when he moves his tongue so even soft foods he refuses to eat. Pain Medicine does little even the perscription stuff. We have tried many different foods like yogurt, pudding, jello, ice cream, mashed potatos, soup, liquid yogurt, oatmeal and anything else we can liquify. Riley is a picky eater to begin with and refuses a lot of things even when he is healthy and now that it hurts to eat he refuses everything. He will at least drink, so we have tried to get him to drink choc milk, V8 splash, gatorade, carnation instant breakfast, and the liquid yogurt. He is very weak and sometimes gets dizzy so after an episode of vomitting we called the doctor's office and the nurse told us to force feed him some kind of protein. This isn't any fun either because when you have to force him he gets upset and starts crying which constricts his throat and sometimes makes it bleed where his tonsils used to be. We can't give him his pain medicine as regularly as we are supposed to because without anything in his stomach it makes him nauseous and he throws up all over the place - mostly on the carpet. He has lost 6 pounds which doesn't sound like much but when you are only 60 lbs to start with it's a big deal. Today (9 days after the surgery) he finally ate some solid food - a few mouthfulls of pizza. They tell us that yesterday and the day before were the worst days and things should be getting better. I hope so this is really miserable. On the bright side it's a new experience to be telling one of your kids "come on just eat two more big bites of your ice cream, you can do it!"

That totally stinks. I can't imagine not wanting to eat :) Kace had his tonsils out, but he was only two. It was much easier then. Good luck!
Awful, I hope we never have to deal with this!!
Poor Riley he's going to be on a high protein diet for a month just trying to gain back the weight he lost :(
